The College of William and Mary will resume classes Wednesday, and faculty and staff should report to work at their regular time on Tuesday.

As of Monday afternoon, power had been restored to most of campus, except two residence halls — Brown Hall and the Ludwell apartment complex. Dominion Power told W&M power is expected to be restored to Brown by the end of the workday Tuesday. Sam Jones, vice chair for the Emergency Management Team, said the college was working with Dominion to restore power to Ludwell as soon as possible.

All college offices will be open on Tuesday; faculty and staff should report for work at their regular times on Tuesday.

Residence halls will reopen to students at noon on Tuesday. The college is working to secure alternative temporary housing in case power is not fully restored to Brown and/or Ludwell residence halls. If power is not restored by noon Tuesday, residents of those halls should contact Residence Life at 757-221-4314 for information about temporary lodging.

The Commons dining hall and Marketplace will reopen at 11 a.m. Tuesday, and the dining hall in the Sadler Center will reopen at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Dining services will resume a normal schedule on Wednesday.

The Sadler Center will be open Tuesday for students waiting to move back into residence halls. The Student Recreation Center will be open for student activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday. If you have a question about a specific event or activity, please contact the individual department or organizer to check on the status.

The add/drop deadline for classes has been extended to Sept. 7. It was originally scheduled for Friday. The college has not yet made any other decisions about changes to the academic calendar to make up the cancelled classes. The provost will work with academic deans to determine how best to proceed and will make an announcement later this week.

In addition, Opening Convocation and the all-college faculty meeting will be rescheduled and new dates and times will be announced later this week.

For students preparing to return, all major roadways to Williamsburg are now passable. Sidewalks and streets on campus have been cleared of major debris. Oleta Coach Lines has offered rides on charter buses from the Franconia/Springfield Metro Station in Springfield to Williamsburg for $25 cash. Students must arrive to the station by 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with a student I.D. Reservations for a spot can be made on their Facebook.

Amtrak has not yet announced when it will resume service to Williamsburg. The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is open for business.
