Dominion Completes 77% of Electric Restorations

Dominion Power said Wednesday that most of the residents in areas of Virginia and North Carolina affected by Hurricane Irene have their power restored. As off 11 this morning, about 77 percent of the 1.2 million customers who were without power since the storm hit on Saturday now have their service restored.

Dominion completed fixes at 8,500 locations and have moved on to the remaining 11,500 spots in need of attention.

"We are continuing to work diligently to restore power," said Rodney Blevins of Dominion. "We understand how challenging the situation can be for our customers without power, and we thank them for their patience.

"As we complete our field work, we send the crews to assist in the remaining restoration. Dominion employees, contractors, retirees and crews from other utilities are restoring power as safely and quickly as possible, and additional crews and equipment will arrive today."

Residents without electrical service are encouraged to call 1-866-DOM-HELP for an estimated time of repair. The time is based on the amount of damage at each work location, which varies.

Dominion said that their goal is to have between 90 and 95 percent of their customers’ service restored by Friday evening — everyone beyond that should have electricity by Saturday night.

Finally got our power back last night! Thank you to the hard working Dominion and Cox guys/gals!! The trucks are certainly out there on the roads---they're working as fast as they can, I am sure!!

We,too, hoped for prompt restoration of power, but watching the effort expended in front of my house, I now realize that some damage takes a lot of time to repair. Two Dominion Power men spent the afternoon on Tues. doing prep work. First thing on Wed,a procession of vehicles (flatbed truck with poles, back hoe,line trucks,etc)arri ved,along with many men, some from NC and TX, whose various fields of expertise were required throughout the day. Power was back on at 5:00. All of this had to be completed before restoration further down the power grid to area neighborhoods could begin. We were without power for 11 days after Isabel, so 5 days is a great improvement.

Lafayette Street is still out of power, 1/2 mile from the Williamsburg Municipal building. Doesn't make much sense. I know we're supposed to celebrate our Colonial heritage here in Williamsburg, but this is a little much.

It is not easy or pleasant to be without power and all the conveniences it offfers that we have become so used to. I had just through Tuesday afternoon to think about our "dire" situation without power and finally concluded: "I'm All Right. We don't have any trees crushing our home or lives, we have a little water intrusion that will be fixed, but we are all safe and sound." I have driven around the area and SEE LOTS of damage from trees. It is hard to be patient,but we must. There are hundreds of people out there, putting themselves on the line of safety and harm, to put our collective "Humpty Dumpty" back together again. Thank you to all the Dominion Power and other people doing all the work.

The power company has again provided a slow and weak response to power outages. No improvement whatsoever since the ice storm and Isabel.

Well, I wonder if their numbers include homes like mine, whose power was restored and then went out again. They restored us on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. and the power went out again at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. This is bull...
