Dominion Completes 77% of Electric RestorationsBy Eric Pesola Wednesday, August 31, 2011 Dominion Power said Wednesday that most of the residents in areas of Virginia and North Carolina affected by Hurricane Irene have their power restored. As off 11 this morning, about 77 percent of the 1.2 million customers who were without power since the storm hit on Saturday now have their service restored.Dominion completed fixes at 8,500 locations and have moved on to the remaining 11,500 spots in need of attention. "We are continuing to work diligently to restore power," said Rodney Blevins of Dominion. "We understand how challenging the situation can be for our customers without power, and we thank them for their patience. "As we complete our field work, we send the crews to assist in the remaining restoration. Dominion employees, contractors, retirees and crews from other utilities are restoring power as safely and quickly as possible, and additional crews and equipment will arrive today." Residents without electrical service are encouraged to call 1-866-DOM-HELP for an estimated time of repair. The time is based on the amount of damage at each work location, which varies. Dominion said that their goal is to have between 90 and 95 percent of their customers’ service restored by Friday evening — everyone beyond that should have electricity by Saturday night. |
