Campaign Finance Update for Local Elections

Current campaign finance reports for November elections show a wide spread of funds raised and cash on hand for candidates in the Triangle.

Finance information available on the Virginia Pubic Access Project for York County show that many of the candidates who had challengers in the recent Republican primaries spent a good amount of their money to clinch nominations. In James City County, a few seats are contested, and these are the races racking up the highest dollar amounts.

Below is a breakdown of the most recent campaign finance updates. All spending and balances are as of August 31. Funds raised can include in-kind contributions.

James City County

Berkeley District incumbent Mary Jones, a Republican, raised $2,259 this year, and she has $4,307 on hand.

Her challenger, Democrat Carlton Stockton, raised $8,300 this year, spent $1,019 and has a balance of $14,865.

Republican Jack Fraley, who is running to fill outgoing Supervisor Bruce Goodson’s Roberts District seat, raised $17,959 this year, just over $1,700 of which were in-kind contributions. He has $13,286 remaining.

Democratic Supervisor John McGlennon, who currently serves the Jamestown District, has decided to challenge Fraley after being moved into Roberts during the recent redistricting process. McGlennon has raised $5,241, $1,957 of which was transferred from his other campaign committee. He has $5,021 on hand.

Incumbent Supervisor Jim Kennedy is running unopposed in the Stonehouse District. He has raised no money this year, but has a fund balance of $6,467.

York County

His Democratic Challenger Tony Joseph has raised $3,020, and has a balance of $1,245.

Incumbent Supervisor Sheila Noll, who had a challenger in the recent Republican primary, is running for reelection in District 2. She raised $1,975 this year, and spent $1,696 through August. She has $1,227 remaining.
