A family reunion of sorts will take place at the William & Mary School of Education today as former and current faculty, staff, alumni and students gather to celebrate the modern school’s 50th anniversary.

“Our education school has done remarkable deeds during its first half century, making a real difference for the better in the Commonwealth and around the country,” said William & Mary President Taylor Reveley. “Its impact on education, especially K12, has been enormous.”

Events will begin with tours of the School of Education at 2 p.m., followed by a short program in the Matoaka Woods Room at 3 p.m. The program will feature remarks from Dean Virginia McLaughlin, Reveley, and several notable alumni and current students. At 4 p.m., a birthday party and tailgate will be held in the school’s courtyard. The tours and program are free and open to the public. The public may also attend the tailgate. Tickets for food are $15 for adults, $5 for children and $5 for students. They may be purchased in advance by clicking here.

“Fifty years is usually considered over-the-hill, but I think for this school of education, we’re just really coming into our own,” said McLaughlin.

I HAVE, for over a year, respectfully have been asking fellow alumni, student groups and The Flat Hat, privately and publicly, to "take a hike" and SEE! There are over 11+ miles, but the worse short stretch of our trails, the Lake Matoaka Trail, is the 160' up close and personal behind our Arts Studio bldg....on stilts!! Well....?

Two words - Private Funding (I don't know if that was the case but it wouldn't surprise me).

If getting the trails updated in College Woods is that important to you, work with other folks that also find it important and start raising money for it.

Quoting :
We're still waiting, after a year, for the public truth about how the $1 million+ cost for building the raised plastic-planked boardwalk trail to and from the new Ed. Bldg. mysteriously cropped up to pay for it, especially when some of the miles of much older College Woods trails continue to remain in poor condition! Well.....?
