VIDEO: Rotarians Take Disabled Vets Fishing

The Yorktown Rotary Club and Yorktown Woman’s Club held its biannual Vet Fishing Excursion Tuesday, giving disabled veterans the chance to get out of the hospital and fish.

About 20 disabled veterans from McGuire Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond and the Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center, with the help of Rotary Club members, were able to fish from a boat and pier. Club members assisted the men in wheelchairs and gurneys into the boat using a lift, which proved difficult with that morning’s high tide.

Other veterans stayed on the pier, where Rotary members helped by baiting hooks, casting lines and reeling in fish.
