CW Receives Grant for Curatorial Internships

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation received a $200,000 grant for a pilot program of curatorial internships.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded the $200,000, which will fund 12 internships over the course of four years in the Division of Collections, Conservation and Museums. Three internships will be full-time year-long internships and intended for graduate students. Nine internships will be three months long and intended for undergraduate students.

Each intern will focus on an area of study in the field of fine art, decorative art, folk art, architectural collections or archaeological collections. Specific disciplines include: furniture, prints and maps, paintings and drawings, sculpture, ceramics and glass, metals, mechanical arts, numismatics, musical instruments, toys, textiles and costumes, archaeological artifacts, zooarchaeological materials and architectural artifacts.

To fulfill the pilot program requirements, the foundation will partner with leading academic institutions, including the College of William and Mary. In addition to providing stipends to the interns, the grant will also help pay for some professional development, research and travel expenses.
