Teen Dies After Stepping Into Traffic

A Lafayette High School student died Sunday from injuries sustained when he stepped into traffic on Jamestown Road.

Witnesses say Taylor James Dean stepped off the sidewalk in the 1400 block of Jamestown Road around 11:30 a.m. and was hit by a Toyota Avalon driven by 71-year-old man coming home from church, according to Maj. Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police.

Rubino said Dean was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, where he died from the injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver and passenger of the Avalon were not injured and no charges will be filed against the driver, Rubino said, because witnesses indicated Dean intentionally stepped into traffic.
