Ferry Delays Expected through Monday MorningBy WYDaily Staff Thursday, November 17, 2011 The Virginia Department of Transportation advises Jamestown-Scotland Ferry motorists to expect significant travel delays. The ferry Pocahontas is temporarily out of service for emergency maintenance. The Surry and Virginia vessels will continue to ferry motorists across the James River using the normal ferry schedule.Crews expect the Pocahontas back in service by noon on Monday, Nov. 21. The vessel was removed from service early Thursday, Nov. 17 to perform repairs on an unexpected mechanical issue. Operations will be diminished by approximately 50 vehicles an hour while the vessel is being repaired. Motorists should expect delays and may want to consider using the I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, the James River Bridge, or the Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge (Route 106/156). Motorists are encouraged to call the VDOT Traffic Information Line at 757-361-3016 or the ferry hotline, 24 hours a day, 1-800-VAFERRY. |
