York Mother Charged in Death of Infant Son

A 20-year-old York County mother has been charged with first degree murder in the death of her infant son.

York County medics were called to a residence in the 200 block of Burts Road just before 11 a.m. today for an unresponsive 9-month-old child. The preliminary investigation indicates "the child most likely died from injuries sustained from being shaken," Lt. Dennis Ivey, Jr., of the York sheriff's office said.

The child was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Autopsy results are pending, police said.

The child's mother, Sabrina Battad, was arrested this afternoon at the sheriff's office. She is being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
