Watch Community Spoof 'South East Side Story'

A film class at The College of William and Mary has premiered its Williamsburg-themed spoof of “West Side Story,” now viewable online.

William and Mary Professor Timothy Barnard’s film festival production class enlisted community and college leaders to film a retelling of the classic musical, called “South East Side Story.” The short movie pits the townies, led by Mayor Clyde Haulman, against the college community, led by Student Council President Kaveh Sedeghian.

The project was filmed Nov. 5 in the Historic Area and at the Kimball Theatre. It was created to promote the college’s Global Film Festival, which has the theme of “Film and the City” this year. Barnard said the college students hoped the three-minute film would communicate the aspiration of the festival: to unite the community through film.

I thought it was cute; I enjoyed picking out folks in the community that I know! The on-stage voices of 'Tony' and 'Maria' were awesome!

More like 9 minutes and 56 seconds that I will never be able to get back..... Just wish those credits could have been longer.
