Suspect Sought in York County Carjacking

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is searching for a second suspect who stole a car at gunpoint with a juvenile suspect on Sunday in York County, later running the car into the side of a gun store in Gloucester.

A York County mother and her two children were parked in their driveway in the 300 block of Leigh Road, just off Goosley Road, when the two suspects approached their car, according to a press release. One suspect pulled on the victim’s car door, pointed a semi-automatic handgun at her and demanded she get out. She told the suspect that her 2-year-old and 8-year-old daughters were in the backseat. The suspects allowed her to get the children out of the vehicle before they drove away.

The victim said there was a red Ford SUV sitting in the street during the carjacking that followed the stolen vehicle after the incident. According to the press release, the Sheriff’s Office responded at 9:17 p.m. to the carjacking.

The suspects later used the stolen vehicle to ram into the side of Hunter’s Haven gun store in Gloucester. The Gloucester Sheriff’s Office made it to the gun store in a matter of seconds and followed a red Ford Explorer that was spotted leaving the scene north on Route 17.

The Sheriff’s Office said the suspects abandoned the SUV, which was stolen from Newport News, near the intersection of Providence Road and Route 17 and ran into the wooded marsh area. A weapon from Hunter’s Haven was found in the Explorer.

The Gloucester Sheriff’s detained one of the suspects, a 16-year-old black male juvenile, behind a nearby 7-Eleven. He is charged with carjacking, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and brandishing a firearm for crime in York County. The Gloucester Sheriff’s Office charged the suspect with burglary and grand larceny. The suspect is currently being held on multiple detention orders at the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center, according to the press release.

The police are still looking for the other black male suspect. He was described as being 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a slender build and dressed in all black.

The Gloucester Sheriff’s Office believe that a 2004 gray Chevrolet Pick-up with Virginia Tag XBT-5766 was stolen by the second suspect sometime during the night in the 4800 block of Piney Swamp Road in White Marsh.

There were no injuries during the commission of the crimes. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
