Poquoson Man Facing Sex Charges Will Go to Trial in March

The fate of a Poquoson man charged with 18 sex-related felonies involving a minor will be in the hands of York County Circuit Court Judge Richard AtLee in late March, with the lawyers of the accused saying yesterday that they did not want a trial by jury.

Bruce Alan Fair, a 54-year-old local business owner, is charged with four counts of rape, six counts of object sexual penetration, four counts of aggravated sexual battery and four counts of indecent liberties with a child, according to Assistant York-Poquoson Commonwealth's Attorney Barbara Cooke.

Cooke said the charges stem from multiple incidents that are alleged to have happened between March 1997 and June 2004 in Poquoson, but Fair was not arrested until Sept. 23.

Cooke could not say why charges are being brought against Fair now, but said the victim is someone known to Fair and no longer a minor.

Fair’s trial is set for 9 a.m. on March 29. He was granted a $50,000 bond on Sept. 29.
