Man Found Dead Near Colonial Parkway

The death of a man found near the Colonial Parkway at the Fusilier's Redoubt ramp in Yorktown on Wednesday morning is believed to be a suicide, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Dennis Ivey of the sheriff’s office said the death appears to have been a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The body was found just after 11 a.m. on the waterfront off the Colonial Parkway, across from the Yorktown Victory Center. Police would not say who found the body.

Police aren’t identifying the victim, but said he is a white male.

According to Ivey, there are no witnesses and the police are waiting on the results of the autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
