Squires Gourmet Partners with Wine SellerBy Amber Lester Kennedy Saturday, December 03, 2011 Squires Everyday Café may have closed its doors at the end of October, but fans of the restaurant’s menu can now visit the business in its new home, The Wine Seller. Owner Brad Squires said opening his business in partnership with The Wine Seller helped fill needs for both businesses. He wanted to continue working in the food industry, and adding food was beneficial for The Wine Seller to meet the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s regulations for serving beer and wine in the store, Squires said. The menu of sandwiches and sides will be similar to his menu at the Mooretown Road location. He will not be able at this time, however, to offer the musical performances offered at his old location. The food counter opened Thursday, and is open at 11 a.m. Monday to Saturday. Squires announced the move in an email to customers Friday. He closed Squires Everyday Café when his lease at Williamsburg Market Shopping Center ended in October. He said the loss of anchor store Ukrop’s in 2009 dealt a blow to the shopping center, which remains half-empty. Last month, the shopping center owner, American General Life Insurance, settled a lawsuit against Ukrop’s to purchase the former grocery store. He feels more positive about his restaurant’s new home, writing in his email, “We personally feel there ain’t nothing but good times ahead.” |
