Four Williamsburg-James City County School Board members took the oath of office Monday at the WJCC Courthouse.

Newcomer Heather Cordasco was sworn in alongside incumbents Ruth Larson, James Nickols and Elise Emanuel. All begin their new terms Jan. 1.

Cordasco, 45, assumes the Roberts District seat held for the past eight years by Denise Koch, who chose not to run for re-election. She has lived in James City County for six-and-a-half years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Nyack College in New York. With her husband, Carlo, she has three children: Corinne, a 2008 graduate of Jamestown High School and a senior at The King’s College; Andrew, a 2010 graduate of Jamestown and a sophomore at Liberty University; and Christopher, a freshman at Jamestown. She works as a fitness instructor at Kingsmill Resort.

Larson, who most recently served as Jamestown District rep, was redistricted into the Berkeley District. She was elected to serve that district in November, and has resigned from the Jamestown seat. Her seat will have to be appointed by the board within 45 days of Jan. 1. The most recent Berkeley rep, Jim Kelly, has said he intends to apply for the position.

Emanuel was appointed to another term on the board by the Williamsburg City Council at its Dec. 8 meeting. Nickols successfully ran unopposed to keep his seat as the Stonehouse District representative.
