Colonial Williamsburg guests might have been doing double takes this weekend when they saw a trio of three famous ladies taking in the sights: comedian Joan Rivers, TV personality Judge Judy and gossip columnist Cindy Adams.

Rivers proclaimed the tourist destination “magical” to her Twitter followers on Monday, tweeting a picture of herself posed with a historic interpreter. On Wednesday, Adams wrote about their trip in her column for the New York Post.

Rivers told WYDaily that a friend recently raved about a visit to Colonial Williamsburg at a dinner party, inspiring her to invite her good friend Adams, who in turn invited her good friend, Judy “Judge Judy” Sheindlin. The three women – all native New Yorkers – spent three days in the colonial city.

It was not Rivers’ first visit to CW. She came on a family trip as a young girl, “which tells you how old Williamsburg is,” she joked. She returned in 1955 for her honeymoon with first husband, James Sanger, and again in the 1980s after Nancy Reagan raved about her visit for a conference.

This past weekend, Rivers, Adams and Sheindlin stayed at the Williamsburg Inn, which has previously housed kings, queens and presidents. They enjoyed dinners at the King’s Arms Tavern and Chowning’s Tavern. “I felt sorry for everyone around us because all we did is laugh,” she said.

They toured all the must-see stops in the Historic Area, from the Governor’s Palace to the jail to the wigmaker’s shop. Rivers, who hosts E!’s “Fashion Police,” had some fashion advice for the costumed interpreters: “The men’s clothes are better than the women’s! The men look really great, the women look … OK. Lose the apron and just look fetching.”

Rivers said they also made sure to venture beyond the historic attractions and visit some local businesses. She raved about a stop at Binn’s fashion store in Merchant’s Square and enjoyed some antiquing in town.

Rivers stars on a WEtv reality show with her daughter, Melissa Rivers, called “Joan Knows Best.” She enjoyed her visit to Williamsburg so much, she hopes to film a future episode here, this time with her grandson, Cooper.

“It was so beautiful and so perfect,” she said. “The three days were absolutely magical.”

Saw the three ladies at brunch at the Inn on Sunday. Joan is right, all laughing. But also scarfing down the seafood. Our August waiter, mr.Clark announced to us Judge Judy is over there. Very proud. He missed Joan R. I could see why. She looks much younger than on the tube. Walks young, too. Not a lot of gawking going on. The Burg is becoming quite sophisticated. Famous Gazette cartoonist and other notables eating clams and oysters and omlettes galore.
