Library Has Titles, Help for E-Book Readers

If Santa brought you an eBook reader and you need help learning how to use it to check out library books, the Williamsburg Regional Library can help.

The WRL offers nearly 1,000 free eBooks for devices like the Nook, iPad, Droid, and Kindle. The library’s eBook page (click here to access it) offers easy instructions on downloading eBooks.

But if you need more personalized help in accessing and using the library's eBook collection, come to one of the WRL's four free walk-in help sessions in January. You’ll receive one-on-one assistance in searching for titles, checking them out and downloading them to your device. Assistance will be on a first-come, first-served basis, but no appointments are necessary. Kindle users will need to know their Amazon account login and password.

Scheduled sessions are:

Wednesday, January 4, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the McGaw Room, James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Road
Thursday, January 12, 1 to 4 p.m. in the Schell Room, Williamsburg Library, 515 Scotland Street
Tuesday, January 17, 1 to 4 p.m. in the Kitzinger Community Room, James City County Library
Friday, January 27, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room B, Williamsburg Library

Thanks to WY Daily for helping us publicize this service. Just to clarify for those with e-readers, we won't be able to help you use all aspects of your readers, but we will help you with downloading e-books from the WRL catalog. We also have extensive help files on our site that can help you learn as well.

Sam, the biggest consideration for me and my husband was backlight. Our eyes get fatigued with it. We opted for Kindles with keyboards. Yes, we have to have an external light to read in in the dark but our eyes don't get fatigued and we can read it outside in the sunlight. We don't have anything against the Nook, our personal preference was the Kindle. I do think the Nook is a good product as well.

Sam: Get on google and ask which is best, i.e. Best e-reader. You will find lots of info and ratings for all.

Also what do you want, a basic reader or something that does more like a Kindle Fire which has internet access?

Do your own research like we all did - it's all on the internet.

The link at "click here" is invalid - try http://www.wrl.org/books-and-reading/ebooks.

It would be nice to have an evening or weekend help session at the Williamsburg library; of the 4 sessions, only one is in the evening, and that's at the JCC library. But I'm glad to see the sessions; I received a Kindle for Christmas. There is nothing like holding a book in my hands, but the Kindle will be awfully nice for when I travel. I never go anywhere without at least 2-3 books, even for a 3 day trip.
