Sen. Miller to Hold Public Meetings

John-MillerState Sen. John Miller, a democrat whose 1st District was recently redrawn to include a large portion of the Historic Triangle, will hold a series of town hall meetings over the next several days.

Miller wants to find out how his constituents feel about key issues as he heads to the 2012 session of the General Assembly.

“This session of the General Assembly will be very challenging. In addition to making hard decisions on where to cut the budget, legislators will deal with whether to lift the ban on uranium mining, gun legislation and how to improve education,” Miller said.

“These meetings give constituents the opportunity to tell me how they feel about these and other important issues that affect them and their families. Hearing their views helps guide my decisions in the Senate. I encourage people to attend these town hall meetings.”

One of the first jobs legislators will have is to approve the Governor’s proposed budget; the biggest impact to the Triangle will likely be the planned Virginia Retirement System contributions, which could cost WJCC schools about $4 million. Read that story here.

Miller will also be the featured speaker at the Williamsburg Hotel Motel Association’s hospitality networking luncheon on Jan.5 at noon.

The luncheon, aimed to inform folks in the tourism industry, will take place at Kingsmill Resort’s Eagles Restaurant in the Riverview Room. Katie Hellebush, Government Relations Director for the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association (VHTA) will on hand to discuss issues likely to be presented in the General Assembly.

Tourism Industry stakeholders should register online here.

Meeting Schedule:

James City County: Wednesday, Dec. 28, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Living Ministries Church, 8934 Unit C Pocahontas Trail.

Sen Miller, I have just one question. Just why should we, the taxpayers of the area, trust you? The Senate hasn't cut it's spending, it's just increased the amount we need to spend! Show me just one true cut in spending, one true thing. Teachers are taking cuts in pay, so far this year it's been around 5.5%, all while the schools spend money on some of the most worthless projects and advisors. Fire and Police watch the state take money to support VSRS, have seen no pay raises, all while millions are spent to build new offices. The state hasn't cut it's spending, it's just made cuts that hurt the ones that serves the people. Colleges spend millions on new buildings but for what? If students can't read, do math, or write then why do we need more college dorms? So please, just why should we trust you, what are you going to do different from the rest of them? Before you ask, no, I'm not a Dem or a Rep, I'm just one of the working class that's very tired of paying everyone else's way.
