New Traffic Pattern Begins Monday on IronboundBy Amber Lester Kennedy Sunday, January 01, 2012 Motorists can expect a new traffic pattern on Ironbound Road, starting Monday. The first phase of construction on Ironbound Road in Williamsburg and James City County is nearly complete. Crews will shift traffic onto the newly constructed southbound lanes on the west side of Ironbound Road (Route 615) between Strawberry Plains Road (Route 616) and Longhill Connector Road (Route 612). Once the traffic has shifted, work will begin on the second phase of the project, which includes reconstruction of the northbound lanes on the east side of Ironbound Road. One lane in each direction will be open to the public. Although the newly paved west side of Ironbound Road will be smoother, motorists should still be alert for uneven surfaces and unmarked pavement in the construction area. The Ironbound Road improvement project began in fall 2010 and is expected to be completed on schedule in December 2012, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The project includes widening the road from two lanes to four, with two travel lanes in each direction, intersection improvements, additional turn lanes and a shared-use recreational path. |
