Home of JCC Chair to be Sold at Auction

The home of James City County Board of Supervisors Chair Mary Jones is set to be sold at public auction in February.

The home is owned by Jones’ husband, Archbold (Arch) Jones, and it was set to be sold in late September 2010 at a similar auction. That sale was stopped at the last minute when Arch Jones’ attorney, foreclosure expert Henry McLaughlin, filed court documents to halt the sale.

The nearly 3,300-square-foot, five-bedroom home in Jamestown Hundred was purchased in 2007 for $428,000, according to county records. The original amount of the mortgage, according to the notice of trustee’s sale, is $342,400. The most recent tax assessment in 2010 puts the home’s value at $358,800.

Mary Jones did not respond to an email from WYDaily about the current foreclosure and what she would do about her residency should her home be sold, but in 2010 she said she intended to live in the Berkeley District so she could continue to serve on the Board. She was re-elected to the seat in November, beating Democrat Carlton Stockton in a two-way race.

The auction will be held on February 14 at the Williamsburg James City County Courthouse.

Aside from the issues relating to the nonpayment of the home mortgage, Mary Jones has also had two warrants in debt (civil claims for money) issued against her within the last year or so – one dating back to January 2011 for $4,102.86, owed to Discover Bank, and one issued in April last year for $1,562.98 owed originally to Chase Bank.

She did not appear in court for either of the two hearings and in both cases the court found in favor of the collections agencies looking to collect the amounts due.

How can an elected official manage government spending if that same individual can't keep her personal finances in line? Doesn't that say something about her abilities, at home and in local government?

Do the right thing. Resign now.

Roger8 YOU PREACH it,,,this is what I thought was going on around here...it seems like the same words are being bantered back and forth among the 'named' posters...and it all seems coordinated.... .NOT GOOD....we are better than this James City.....the fringe "loons", (I like that bird reference), if left to themselves will make progress. heyhothere you are more correct than you may think ! JCC is currently under attack from a very narrow band of loonies who have a very tight agenda. ICLEI is the agenda and it represents something so grand that the loones will do anything to discredit or manipulate those who make a righteous stand. For me, loonies and loones are birds that live in New Hampshire, not in the grand state of VA who has on its flag the lady conquering tyranny.

I DARE YOU TO POST THIS WYDAILY....

The overwhelmingly nasty left wing hatred commentary on this board, (if you can call this a board), is so obviously biased that it leads me to believe one thing. You are all a bunch of stark staring morons, so much so that you hijack this purported news site with your vitriol or you are all basically working in concert with one another to communicate your agenda. Either way, you stink.

If an elected official is unable to effectively manage her personal finances, how can she be expected to effectively manage the finances of an entire county?

To get an accurate understanding of the BOS compensation you would need to include the base $7000, the stipend from the JCSA Board of Directors, and the equivalent value of medical coverage (for the supervisor and if applicable their family).

Which part of $7,000 is your memory confused about?

Stop perpetuating misinformation!

Why are they hiding the REAL root of this story - deflection

Why are those few pushing this sordid story all demanding Chairman Jones’ resignation?

My bet it’s because she helped expose their hidden Agenda21/ICLEI

There was an article about a year ago that listed the salaries of the BOS and their benefits. As I remember the number was in the $30K range. Actually it should be public information and available on the JCC website.

Glad to know that conservatives have "bleeding heart" tendencies even if only for their own. I thought they were vulture capitalists, sink or swim, I got mine you git yours, no help to anyone period.

I feel sorry for Ms. Jones and her family, and I regret that this horrible recession begun by Bush in his de-regulatory zeal got us into the economic, social, and moral vaccuum we're now in.

President Obama continues to have my support as we seek to more fairly level the playing field for all Americans, not just for the Mitt Romneys, Newt Gingriches, and Donald Trumps who selfishly protect themselves and occasionally parse trickle down crumbs to the masses.
