The 2012 contestants in Dancing with the Williamsburg Stars.
Tickets are now on sale for the event, which benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Virginia Peninsula and Literacy for Life. The show begins at 7 p.m. at Phi Beta Kappa Hall at the College of William and Mary. Reserved floor seating is $60 per ticket and balcony tickets are $35 each. For $115, guests can purchase VIP tickets, which include premium seating, plus a pre-show cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception and complimentary drinks during intermission. Tickets can be purchased online here or by calling (757) 221-2674 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Twelve local business and community leaders have been rehearsing for their performances. The show mirrors the ABC television show, “Dancing with the Stars,” pairing local “stars” with trained dancers to choreograph a ballroom dance number. The show will be emceed by Anne Conner, regional president of TowneBank. Conner served as a contestant in the first event, and as a judge for last year’s show. This year, the contestants will be judged by Rebecca Rushforth, a professor of ballroom dance from the College of William and Mary; Caren Schumacher, executive director of the Williamsburg Land Conservancy and a former contestant; and Peter Gore, principal of Gore Capital Management and adjunct lecturer at the William and Mary Mason School of Business. This year, the performers include: • Lance Pedigo, one of the leaders of Colonial Williamsburg’s Fifes and Drums and also a member of the Celtic band Poisoned Dwarf • Dr. Ann Marie DeFiglio-Campolattaro, of the Yorktown Family practice of TPMG • Scott Grafton, owner of Iron-Bound Fitness and Gym in New Town • Mary Johnston, a long-time teacher and alumnus at Walsingham Academy • Bob Graves, president of Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center • Mary Beth Gibson, executive director and co-founder of Beyond Boobs! • Scott Wise, a former James Blair Middle School teacher and owner/partner in University Management, Inc., a real estate development and management company • Tiffany Francis Reaves, of Howell Creative Group and president of Young Emerging Professionals of Williamsburg • Will Melton, owner of Computer Concepts of New Town • Barbara Watson, longtime Community Service Assistant Manager for James City County • Scott Zimmerman, owner of Conscientious Carpet Care and longtime Williamsburg Kiwanis Club leader • Darryl Wynne, New Town branch manager of TowneBank The contestants are training with professionals from four dance studios: Megan Van Guilder, Lorna Williams and Jerome Mester of Art Inspired Studio One Newport News; Steve Kirvan and Denise Ridley of 7 Cities Ballroom; Cindy Norge, Woody Denmon and Elisabeth Tarodi of Country Bootleggers Dance Studio; and “Mr. Z” Rick Zilonka of Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Virginia Beach. Fans are able to vote for their pre-show favorites by making a dollar donation to their preferred dancer. All money raises will go to the two local charities; more than $22,000 has been raised to date. |
