Bomb Looked Real, Turns Out to Be PropBy WYDaily Staff Tuesday, January 31, 2012
It looked real, but this device that police suspected was a bomb was actually a prop that had been made for a project. (photo courtesy James City County Fire Department)
James City Police were called to a residence on North Riverside Drive in the upper part of the county around 5 p.m. Monday, after a resident discovered what seemed to be an explosive device: two CO2-type cannisters attached with colored wires to a miniature circuit board. Police summoned the James City County Fire Marshal's Office and evacuated nearby residences within 300 feet of the home "as a safety precaution," a press release said, as fire and EMS units stood by on the scene. Based on the appearance of the device, the Fire Marshals requested the assistance of the Virginia State Police Bomb Squad. The VSP bomb technicians, utilizing their robot, were able to render the “device” safe. In doing that, state police determined the device was inactive and just a prop. James City Fire Dept. spokesman Bob Ryalls said the device apparently had been a prop for a project, and the person who found it had been unaware of the project and prop. All displaced residents returned to their homes and all units were off the scene by 11 p.m. |

If I saw someone standing in a store with a "gun" pointed, how could we know for sure in a split second if it was 'real' or a 'real-looking' kid's toy?
(And, "Grammar Police", the rest of us understand why some folk have the audacity to stand on the sidelines, poking "fun" at the rest of us who, respectfully, get intelligently involved)....
