WATA has New Interim DirectorBy Desiree Parker Friday, February 03, 2012 The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority appointed Anthony Conyers as Acting Executive Director until a new director is found. In December, former Executive Director Mark Rickards resigned and Larry Foster, the head of the James City Service Authority, took the reins temporarily until a different interim director could be hired.Conyers has served as the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Social Services under Governors Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and also as the manager of community services in James City County. Before that, he was the first director of public transit in the Greater Williamsburg area. “It’s exciting to once again have an opportunity to serve the citizens of the Greater Williamsburg area,” Conyers said. “I trust that I can be helpful to both the Board of Directors and to the WATA staff as they deal with important fiscal and operational challenges and continue to search for a permanent Executive Director.” Conyers will oversee WATA’s daily operations and personnel administration, and will report to the Board of Directors. |
