Apply for Armed Forces Scholarship This Week

The deadline is fast approaching for the 2011 Armed Forces Committee Scholarship, with submissions due Friday.

The scholarship program, an initiative of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance, is designed to assist active duty, retired military, family dependents of active duty personnel and honorably discharged military students to attend college.

To be eligible, applicants must be within their second semester of college or beyond; have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; and work, live or attend school within the Alliance’s service area. Application forms can be downloaded here. Awards will be presented prior to the 2011 Fall Semester.

The Armed Forces Committee Scholarship program was established by the Alliance in 1997. For questions about the application process, call Janice Lewis at 757-327-0333.

Bacon Avenue Block Party Planned for July 19

Mark your calendars for the Bacon Avenue Block Party, an annual summertime event now in its 14th year. The event, which is only open to members of the Chamber, will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. July 19 on Bacon Avenue in Williamsburg.

The party, hosted by the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance, will feature food from Sal’s by Victor Italian Restaurant and music provided by AM 740 WMBG.
