Community Notebook: Apply for Community Foundation Grants, Weatherization Funds

community-notebook2The deadline to apply for Williamsburg Community Foundation grants is fast approaching, with all materials due by Jan. 25. Qualifying families can get a little help to pay for weatherization, which helps save money on energy costs in the winter. Read more details below.

Apply Now for Williamsburg Community Foundation Grants

The Williamsburg Community Foundation will accept grant applications until noon on Jan. 25.

The foundation awards grants for up to $5,000 to organizations that support a broad range of community enrichment opportunities and respond to changing community needs, according to the foundation’s website.

Projects must benefit citizens of the greater Williamsburg area, including Williamsburg, James City County and York County.

The rules for submitting applications are posted here. Download the grant application and budget form here. Both application and budget forms must be filled out completely for consideration.

Applicants must submit an original application and 12 collated copies of your application and budget forms. Applications will not be accepted by email.

For more information, call 757-259-1660. Organizations that receive funding will be notified on March 23 or shortly thereafter, and grants will be presented formally in April.

WJCC Community Action Agency Offers Weatherization

The Williamsburg James City County Community Action Agency is offering free weatherization services for families who qualify.

The services include insulation, weatherstripping and caulking, which can all help save money on energy bills.

For an application, call Rosalind Dodd at 229-9389 or stop by 312 Waller Mill Road, Suite 405 in Williamsburg.

Go Behind the Scenes at Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg will provide glimpses behind the scenes this winter, from January to Feb. 15. Guests will meet with curators, archaeologists and others to see how the foundation brings history to life.

Programs include opportunities to talk with the resident ensemble, The Governor’s Musick; interact with performing arts staff to learn about Colonial theater; learn about rare ceramic forms at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum; talk to actor-interpreters about portraying famous “nation builders”; and tour the Costume Design Center.
