JCC Notebook: Planning Commission Annual Update, Meeting Set

jcc-notebook2At their Tuesday evening meeting, Supervisors got an annual report from the Planning Commission.

Over 2010, the commission developed policies and procedures to improve accountability and transparency, according to former chair Reese Peck.

New by-law changes started last year call for commissioners to disclose any meetings they’ve had about cases outside public meetings.

Also, in order to give the public a venue to file complaints, the commission created a subcommittee to look into any allegations and take action if necessary.

Other changes the commission has made include adding various maps online indicating where development is occurring in the county; graphing various data which locals can access; and creating an annual Comprehensive Plan score card to measure how the county is doing in relation to its stated goals.

Last year, the commission started working on the zoning ordinance update which is now underway.

Upcoming meeting

The Planning Commission Policy Committee will meet March 16 in Building A of the county government complex.

The Committee will discuss signage, wireless communications facilities, traffic impact analysis submittal requirements and the floodplain ordinance. The Committee will also receive an update on the certification of Urban Development Areas.
