jcc-notebook2

James City County’s citizen redistricting committee will hold its second meeting Thursday afternoon, and the county encourages citizen input in the process.

The 10-member committee, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, met for the first time last week (read that story here). They have until April 12 to share their recommendation for a new district map with the Board.

County citizens are encouraged to participate by submitting comments to the county to redistricting@james-city.va.us, attending and sharing thoughts at the committee meetings, or calling the board secretary at 253-6609.

Citizens can submit their own maps to the county by sending a map to the email address above (email attachments should be no larger than 10 MB and submitted as a pdf file or Microsoft Word document and should include contact information).

If needed, James City County will provide access to data, software and current maps available only at County offices. Call 253-6654 for more information.

The Citizen Redistricting Committee meets at 4:30 p.m. April 7 and 12, in the Board Work Session Room in Building F at the County Government Center on Mounts Bay Road. Public hearings for the redistricting plan and redistricting ordinance are scheduled for the Board of Supervisors meetings April 12 and 26, respectively.

Saturday’s event will also include e-recycling (computers and electronics) but no televisions will be accepted.

We need continuous chemical collection containers at the county center on Tewning Road so that residents are not tempted to throw chemicals in their weekly garbage rather than store them aside for the unknown future time there may be an inconvenient collection date.
