JCC Notebook: Comp Plan Meeting, Parks and Rec Employee of the Year and More

jccnotebook3News from the county this week includes an upcoming public meeting on the coordinated Comprehensive Plan process, the Parks and Recreation Employee of the Year, and information on county closings for the upcoming holiday.

Comp Plan Joint Review Meetings

James City County, the City of Williamsburg, and York County are jointly reviewing their comprehensive plans and input from the community is needed.

The localities are hosting community forums to offer citizens an opportunity to share thoughts for the overall Historic Triangle and for the focus areas listed below where locality boundaries meet. Maps of the focus areas and more information are available online. http:www.htplanning.org.

The upcoming meetings are:

Lightfoot/Pottery area: Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Warhill High School Auditorium, 4615 Opportunity Way.

Northeast Triangle and surrounding area: Monday, Feb. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Williamsburg Community Building, 401 North Boundary St.

Yorktown/Lower York County: Thursday, March 15, from 7 to 8:45 p.m. at Tabb Library Meeting Room, 100 Long Green Blvd.

The comprehensive plan is the long-range plan for the locality’s physical development and is used to evaluate development proposals and guide local decisions. While each locality will be conducting its own independent comprehensive plan review and developing its own plan, the coordinated timing of these reviews will provide an opportunity for discussion about issues of mutual interest, such as transportation, housing, and economic development.

Parks and Rec Employee of the Year

James City County Parks and Recreation Communications Specialist Veda McMullen was named the department’s 2011 Employee of the Year.

McMullen received the honor from Parks and Recreation Director John Carnifax during the department’s annual Employee of the Year ceremony held recently. She was recognized for her efforts to promote the department’s special events, facilities and parks to the public, a role that supported increased citizen and visitor participation.

Her thoroughness, attention to detail and customer service initiatives also significantly increased awareness of the department within the community, according to a county press release.

The Employee of the Year program recognizes employees who consistently perform well beyond what is required on a day-to-day basis. The nominees included Pauline Milligan, Budget Management Specialist; Nancy Ellis, Parks Administrator; Camilla Eckenrode, Instructor I Youth Soccer; and Dana Derr, Senior Recreation Leader.
