Williamsburg Notebook: Police Promotions and Budget Work SessionsBy WYDaily Staff Monday, March 21, 2011 ![]() Williamsburg Police Chief David Sloggie has announced two recent promotions within the department. Both promotions take effect today, Monday, March 21. Major Andrew Barker was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police. A 27-year law enforcement veteran, Deputy Chief Barker has spent 23 of those years as a supervisor. He's commanded all three of the department's bureas. Deputy Chief Barker has a bachelor's degree in criminology and is uniquely qualified to assume this role. He will lead the department in the absence of the chief and carry out duties "in a professional manner consistent with our reputation and that of the City of Williamsburg," according to a press release. Sergeant Edward Schneider was promoted to lieutenant. He has 22 years of law enforcement experience. Lieutenant Schneider has served with the WPD since 1998, spending several of those years as a criminal investigator, which included being certified in “computer crimes forensics.” He has over two years of college working toward his bachelors degree and has completed the FBI National Academy 1st Line Supervisors Course. Both men, according to the press release, "are men of integrity, dedication, and high morale character. They exhibit the highest ideals of professionalism." Budget work sessions start, funding hopefuls to make presentations The Williamsburg City Council will host back-to-back work sessions to talk about the budget, starting today. The first work session will start at 5 p.m. in Multipurpose Room 2 at the Quarterpath Recreation Center. Representatives from Colonial Williamsburg, the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance and the Williamsburg Hotel/Motel Association will give presentations, before City Manager Jack Tuttle and Finance Director Phil Serra introduce the budget for fiscal year 2012. At 6:30 p.m., Council will begin discussion of the budget and the five-year Capital Improvement Plan. On Tuesday, the council will meet again at 5 p.m. in Multipurpose Room 2 at the Quarterpath Recreation Center to discuss the budget. They’ll receive recommendations from the Arts Commission and receive presentations from the Department of Human Services and the Regional Library, before having more budget discussion at 6 p.m. On Wednesday, and unrelated to the budget process, the Planning Commission will meet for a work session at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the Stryker Building. They will conduct a review of the 2006 Comprehensive Plan. |
