Williamsburg Notebook: Holly Hills Wins Beautification Award, NE Triangle Group to Meet

The neighborhood is located at the intersection of Route 199 and Brookwood Drive, and is the tenth to receive the award since the program began in 2001. The Northeast Triangle Focus Group will meet next Monday, and the city’s first gallery crawl will take place on Sept. 29. Read on for more details.

Holly Hills Wins Beautification Award

The City of Williamsburg’s Beautification Advisory Committee (BAC) presented its 2011 Beautification Award to Holly Hills Carriage Homes, a city neighborhood located at the intersection of Route 199 and Brookwood Drive.

Mayor Clyde Haulman presented the award to Pam Legere, on behalf of the neighborhood, at the Sept. 14 Planning Commission meeting.

 

The Beautification Advisory Committee is a subcommittee of the Williamsburg Planning Commission, and its purpose is to make recommendations to the Planning Commission on ways to improve the physical appearance of the city. The award program began in 2001. In addition to the award certificate, a Beautification Award sign will be installed for one year on the award-winning property.

Northeast Triangle Focus Group Meets Monday

The Northeast Triangle Focus Group will meet at 2 p.m. Monday on the third floor of the Municipal Building in Williamsburg.

The group is working to come up with a vision for an approximately 565-acre area encompassed by Capitol Landing Road, Merrimac Trail, Second Street and Penniman Road. They are expected to complete a vision statement by December 2011 for use in the city’s Comprehensive Plan in 2012.

Williamsburg’s First Gallery Crawl Set for Sept. 29

The City of Williamsburg Economic Development Authority is sponsoring the first Gallery Crawl on Sept. 29.

For $40, participants will board chartered buses that will visit art galleries and three bed and breakfasts, where patrons can interact with artists and view their pieces in a home setting. The ticket also includes a keepsake wine glass that serves as an invitation from one art stop to the next. Wine will be selected by Blue Talon’s Adam Steely.

Wine glasses can be ordered via PayPal here. Select one of the three “Will Call” locations listed on that site to pick up tickets between 5:30 and 8 p.m.

To pay by check, mail a check payable to the Williamsburg EDA to Williamsburg EDA, 401 Lafayette St., Williamsburg, VA 23185. Include your name and your preferred “will call” location.
