Williamsburg Notebook: Planning Commission to Review ARB Requirements

Next month, the Planning Commission will discuss revising the requirements for the Architectural Review Board. And parents interested in taking their children on a lantern-lit walk through Waller Mill Park should register now to snag a spot for the Nov. 12 event. Read on for more details.

Waller Mill Hosts Children’s Lantern Walk

Waller Mill Park will host its second Lantern Walk from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 12.

Children ages three to 10 are invited to make their own lanterns and stroll through the park at dusk. The evening will begin with the magic of William the Conjuror, followed by the lantern walk. After the walk, cookies and punch will be provided.

All materials will be provided. Space is limited to 20 children. There is a $10 fee per child and a $2 entrance fee. Register by Nov. 9 in person at Waller Mill Park or by calling 259-3778.

Planning Commission to Discuss Requirements for Architectural Review Board

The Williamsburg Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss whether the city should revise the membership requirements for the Architectural Review Board, pertaining to the requirement that one member be a licensed architect and one member have a degree in architectural history or historic preservation.

The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Stryker Building on Nov. 16.

City Council Seeks Board Applicants

The Williamsburg City Council seeks applicants for the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals or Williamsburg-James City County School Board.

All three have members who will complete their terms Dec. 31. Citizens will have a chance to share their opinions about the applicants for school board at the 2 p.m. Nov. 10 City Council meeting.

Applications are accepted at any time for city residents interested in serving on one of the city’s 23 boards and commissions. The applications are kept on file for two years and referred to when openings become available.
