Northeast Triangle Group to Host Public Meeting The Northeast Triangle Focus Group will host a public meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Williamsburg Community Building. The group will present the draft of the final report for the Northeast Triangle Focus Area, which will include their proposed recommendations to City Council. An open forum will follow for citizens and businesses to share thoughts and ideas. The detailed agenda is available here. City Hosts SKYWARN Training Nov. 16 In conjunction with the National Weather Service, the city of Williamsburg is hosting Basic SKYWARN Training at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Williamsburg Regional Library. The training is free. SKYWARN is a volunteer program with nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters. Volunteers help keep their communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service. The training session will include information about the basics of thunderstorm development; fundamentals of storm structure; identifying potential severe weather features; information to report; how to report information; and basic severe weather safety. Second Leaf Collection Route Starts Monday The City of Williamsburg provides free leaf collection from November to the second week of January. The leaves are vacuumed and ground into mulch for use by the Landscaping Department. The city is divided into two routes (Red and Blue) and there are five collections for each route. The Red collection started Nov. 7, and the Blue route begins Monday. Each street on each route is collected once a week. Leaves must be raked to the street by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the collection week. Find the complete collection schedule here. Planning Commission Hosts Public Hearing on ARB Requirements The Planning Commission will host a public hearing on revising the membership requirements for the Architectural Review Board at its 3:30 p.m. meeting on Wednesday. The revision pertains to the requirement that one member be a licensed architect and one member have a degree in architectural history or historic preservation. Appointments to the Beautification Advisory Committee are also on the agenda. Recycle Holiday Lights, Electronics This Week Home Depot stores will recycle old, broken or used incandescent holiday light strings. Get a discount for each recycled string on a single receipt, in-store purchase of LED lights. There is a limit of five discounts per customer. The program runs through Sunday. Tuesday is “America Recycles Day” and HR Green, Waste Management and LG have teamed to offer free electronics recycling to residents and businesses in Hampton Roads. Participants are allowed to bring up to one pickup truck full of electronics to York County Sports Center between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (or until the trailer is full) on Tuesday. Document shredding will be provided by Stealth Shredding; plastic bag recycling will also be available. Participants who bring five used plastic bags will receive a reusable ChicoBag (one per person). The following items will be accepted: Cell phones, Computers/CPUs, Computer monitors, Computer peripherals (mouse, speakers, etc.), Consumer electronics (DVD players, alarm clocks, etc.), Fax machines, Home and office phones, Keyboards, Paper (separate from electronics), Plastic bags (separate from electronics), Printers, Stereos, Televisions, VCRs. |

Williamsburg residents wanting to share their ideas for the Northeast corner of the city will have one last chance Tuesday when the Northeast Triangle Focus Group will present a draft of its final report. The city also seeks volunteers to attend SKYWARN training, where they can learn how to watch for storms. Read on for more details.
