City Offices Closed for Thanksgiving

Family and Friends Invited to Turkey Shoot on Sunday

Family members or friends can start playing tennis together on Sunday, but the jumbled tennis doubles event will force them to switch partners as the event progresses.

The event is for intermediate and higher level tennis players, grades six through adult. Players can register without a partner and be paired up to start the event. There will be a drawing for a turkey, as well as other door prizes and awards. A minimum of 12 to maximum of 28 participants will be allowed. Pre-registration is required.

The event is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kiwanis Park Tennis Courts, at a fee of $15 per person. Register by calling Quarterpath Recreation Center at (757) 259-3760.

Northeast Triangle Focus Group to Meet Nov. 28

The Northeast Triangle Focus Group will meet at 2 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Quarterpath Recreation Center.

The group, charged with coming up with a vision for the northeast corner of the city, will be finishing up a year’s worth of discussion. The group is also finishing its final draft of a report to be presented to City Council.

BZA to Review Fence Request from Walsingham

The Williamsburg Board of Zoning Appeals will host a public hearing at 4 p.m. Dec. 6 in the third floor conference room at the Williamsburg Municipal Building.

The public hearing will focus the request of Walsingham Academy for a variance to the Zoning Ordinance to construct a fence that exceeds the six-foot height limit in residential districts. Walsingham Academy proposes to install an outfield fence on its existing baseball field, which would include heights ranging from 8 to 24 feet. The property is currently zoned Single-Family Dwelling District.
