Williamsburg Notebook: Holiday Market Open Saturday; Focus Group Meets Monday

wmsbrgnotebook2If hitting the mall isn’t your thing, the Williamsburg Farmers Market will host its Holiday Market on Saturday morning, with fresh flowers and apple tastings. On Monday, the Northeast Triangle Focus Group will meet one last time to review its report. Finally, congratulations to Michele DeWitt, who was recognized by the Rotary for her contributions to Williamsburg. Read on for more details.

Holiday Market on Saturday

Williamsburg Farmers Market’s Holiday Market will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and on Dec. 10 at Merchants Square.

The market will offer apple tasting, music by Kindred Spirits, decorations, fresh flowers and locally grown and produced food.

Northeast Triangle Focus Group to Meet Monday

The Northeast Triangle Focus Group will meet one last time Monday before presenting its final report to City Council in January.

The group will meet at 2 p.m. Monday in the third-floor conference room at the Municipal Building to review comments and approve the final report.

They’ll present the report at 4 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Stryker Building.

The Williamsburg Rotary Club chose Economic Development Director Michele Mixner DeWitt as the 2011 winner of its Positively Williamsburg award.

In its second year, the Positively Williamsburg initiative rewards and recognizes regional activities that benefit everyone in the community, while sharing, recognizing and rewarding individual(s).

“We recognized Michele for all of the contributions she has made in making Williamsburg a better place to live,” said Bob Tubbs, president of the Williamsburg Rotary. “Her positive approach and many accomplishments made her a natural choice for this year’s awards.”

Council to Host Public Hearing on ARB Requirements

The Williamsburg City Council will hold a public hearing at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Stryker Building.

Council will consider amending the text of the Zoning Ordinance to revise membership requirements for the Architectural Review Board, pertaining to the requirement that one member be a licensed architect and one member have a degree in architectural history or historic preservation.

Planning Commission to Discuss Classroom Trailers

The Williamsburg Planning Commission will host a public hearing at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 at the Stryker Building.

The members will consider a Special Use Permit request and site plan approval to install two temporary classroom trailers at Berkeley Middle Schools.

The trailers would provide four additional classrooms until July 2017. The property is zoned Single Family Dwelling District.

Business Roundtable Lunch Dates Set for 2012

Mark your calendars with the dates for the 2012 Business Roundtable Luncheons:

• December 11

All luncheons will be at noon, with speakers and location to be determined. The last date of 2011 is Dec. 13, with speaker and location to be announced.
