Williamsburg Notebook: Council Makes Appointments, Approves ARB Requirement ChangeBy Amber Lester Kennedy Friday, December 09, 2011
City Council Approves ARB Changes, Makes Appointments The Williamsburg City Council unanimously approved a change to the Architectural Review Board membership requirements that will allow a nonresident to serve at its Thursday meeting. Licensed architects living in James City County or the Bruton district of York County will be eligible to serve on the board if they are employed in the city. Deputy Carolyn Murphy said the change was necessary because it was difficult to find a licensed architect who was also resident of the city and willing to serve. The board also made several appointments to boards and commissions. Elise Emanuel was re-appointed to the Williamsburg-James City County School Board for a four-year term, to expire Dec. 31, 2015. Demetrios Florakis and Chris Connolly were appointed to four-year terms on the Planning Commission, to expire Dec. 31, 2015. David Stemann was appointed to a four-year term on the Architectural Review Board, and Joe Hertzler will fulfill Florakis’ term on the ARB, to expire Dec. 31, 2012. Dennis Kiser and Drew Gruber were appointed to five-year terms on the Board of Zoning Appeals, to expire Dec. 31, 2016. Neighborhood Council Meets Saturday The Neighborhood Council of Williamsburg meets at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Quarterpath Recreation Center. Old Towne Medical Center Executive Director David Pribble will speak about the center’s mission, organization and structure. Meeting attendees will also discuss what they would like to see in the Neighborhood Council. For information, contact Jim Joseph at 565-1549.
