York County Board of Supervisors Chairman George Hrichak honored Landscape Technician Bob Walker and Battalion Chief Jeffery Payne for their 25 years of service to the county.

Walker joined the county in 1986 as a laborer in the Department of Leisure Services. Over the next few years, Walker was promoted to Equipment Operator I, and then to Grounds Maintenance Supervisor which put him in charge of grounds and landscape maintenance at county buildings and park locations. He was involved in numerous projects including the construction of Kiln Creek Park in 1999.

Today Walker serves as the county’s Landscape Technician.

“Though his responsibilities are numerous and varied, Bob focuses his efforts on making things beautiful on a county-wide basis,” said Grounds Maintenance Division Chief Rob Krieger. “From the time the plant material is installed to season’s end, Bob’s attention to detail is always apparent in the appearance of the flowerbeds, hanging baskets and landscaping throughout the county.”

Battalion Chief Payne joined the county’s Department of Fire and Life Safety in 1986 as a career firefighter, having served four years as a volunteer firefighter for the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department.

Today, Battalion Chief Payne serves the county out of Fire Station One in Grafton as a Shift Commander. He’s he is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of fire and rescue services around the county on his assigned shift workdays.

“A strong and experienced on-scene commander, Battalion Chief Payne is known for his excellent leadership skills and unparalleled dedication to both internal and external customer service,” said Fire Chief Stephen Kopczynski.
