York Notebook: Sept. 11 Event, Skating Postponed and Senior Scrapbooking

yorknotebook2A week after Hurricane Irene hit York County, activities are beginning to go back to normal. Here is a list of things that are happening in town and on the anniversary of Sept. 11.

Read with a hero
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, Tabb Library is inviting children to listen as York County’s firefighters and deputies read some of their favorite stories. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the children’s area of the library on Sept. 10.

A fire engine, paramedic unit and other emergency equipment will be on display.

Visit the Tabb library this week to sign a poster that will be presented to the York County first responders. The event is a joint program between the Library and the York Education Association.

For more information, call 890-5110.

Skate, Rattle and Roll postponed
Due to renovations at Dare Elementary School, York County’s Skate, Rattle and Roll opening date of Sept. 9 has been postponed.

Please check the Parks and Recreation website for updates on when the popular Friday night event will reopen or call York County Parks and Recreation at 890-3500 for more information.

Senior activities
A variety of educational and entertaining programs are being offered at the Senior Center of York in September.

The next event is Monday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon, where Cathy Fowler of Creative Memories will show how to make beautiful cards and scrapbooks. These cards and your personalized scrapbook create lasting memories and make wonderful gifts for your loved ones. Register by Sept. 9 by call 898-3807.

Participation is open to seniors age 55 or better and their spouses, regardless of age. The center is located in the Washington Square Shopping Center on Route 17, and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center is closed all county holidays.

Reservations are required for all sessions and are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information, click here.
