York Notebook: Chickens and Oysters, Holiday Markets, a Book Sale and More

yorknotebook2The Planning Commission is going to vote on what they will be recommending to the Board of Supervisors concerning aquaculture and chicken keeping ordinances changes this Wednesday. Also, Yorktown is holding a Holiday Open House this weekend and the library's Fall Book Sale approaches. Keep reading to learn about more goings-on in the county.

Planning Commission agenda
The Planning Commission is meeting Nov. 9 to discuss zoning ordinance changes they will be recommending to the Board of Supervisors after having two special committees discuss agriculture and aquaculture, and backyard chicken keeping.

Yorktown Holiday Open House weekend
Yorktown is bringing the spirit of the holidays home by holding a Holiday Open House this weekend.

Shops will be open and select stores will be holding giveaways, offering special discounts and hosting artist demonstrations. Enjoy festive decorations and strolling entertainment throughout the Open House weekend. Santa Claus will even pay a visit, so make your list, check it twice, and bring it to Yorktown Nov. 12 and 13.

Market Days are ending
Yorktown Market Days will conclude its fifth season at Riverwalk Landing with two Holiday Markets on Nov. 12 and Dec. 10.

Located on the banks of the York River between Buckner and Ballard streets, the Nov. 12 market will have extended hours from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. with over 35 vendors scheduled for the Holiday Markets.

Senior Center celebrating its 20th anniversary
The Senior Center of York will celebrate its 20th anniversary with an Open House from 1 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 18.

A short program will be presented at 1 p.m. followed by time for food and fellowship. Art and craft exhibits created by Senior Center patrons will be featured, and light refreshments will be served.

Fall Book Sale
The Friends of the York County Public Library are having their Fall Book Sale this weekend in the Yorktown Library meeting room.

Browse the large collection of books and multimedia for the whole family. No titles are over $1.

On Nov. 11 the sale is open from 3 to 7 p.m. to members of the York County Friends of the Library. The sale is open to the general public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 12 and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 13.
