Tribe Closes Home Schedule With Loss to TowsonBy Tribe Athletics Wednesday, February 24, 2010 The William and Mary men’s basketball team fell to Towson, 83-77, on Senior Night at Kaplan Arena on Wednesday night. Prior to the game, the Green and Gold honors the four-member senior class of Steven Hess, Sean McCurdy, David Schneider and Danny Sumner along with senior manager Jack Smith for their contributions to Tribe basketball over the last four seasons. The group is the winningest W&M senior class in 25 years.The College fell to 19-9 overall and 11-6 in CAA, while Towson improved to 8-20 on the year and 5-12 in league action. Schneider led four Tribe players in doubles figures with 22 points, but needed the second-most field goal attempts in Kaplan Arena history (25) to reach the mark. He drilled six 3-pointers on an Arena record 17 3-point attempts, while dishing out six assists and tallying three steals. Sumner finished with 16 points, while junior forward Marcus added 12 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Quinn McDowell chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds. Hess, who earned his second collegiate start in his 100th career game, shared team-high rebounding honors with nine board to go along with three assists. As a team, the Tribe connected on 14 3-point field goals, but shot just 38.9 percent (28-of-72) from the floor in the loss. W&M also outrebound Towson, 44-35, on the evening. The Tigers shot 50 percent (28-of-56) from the floor to go along with 45-percent (9-of-20) and 90-percent (18-of-20) from the free throw line. Guard Troy Franklin turned in an efficient game-high 27 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, 3-of-5 from 3-point range and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Junior forward Robert Nwankwo tallied a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four blocked shots. Josh Thornton and RaShawn Polk each finished in double figures with 14 and 12 points apiece. |
