WCA girls, boys cruise past Isle of White; Fitchett’s 35 and St. Cyr’s triple-double power Lafayette over York; Grafton, Bruton and Tabb also winners in Bay Rivers action.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Tabb 80  Warhill 64

Kaleb Mitchell’s three 3’s sparked a 29-point opening for quarter for Tabb (11-6 Bay Rivers) as they held on despite a game-high 24 points from Warhill’s Devonte Dedmond. Shaq Rodney led the Tigers with 17 points, Ryan Sawyer continued his strong play with 16, Mitchell finished with 15 and Joe Nelson added 12.

Lafayette 87  York 73

It was a huge night all around for the Rams (13-4 Bay Rivers), who exploded for 36 points in the fourth quarter after being tied 51-51 with the host Falcons after three quarters. Colton St. Cyr compiled a rare triple-double scoring 25 points with 12 assists and 10 rebounds, and John Fitchett netted a career-high 35 points.

Bruton 62  Poquoson 52

After leading by one (24-23) at the half, Bruton coach Scott Joyner said his team picked up the intensity in their full-court trap which led to the Panthers outscoring the host Islanders 38-29 in the  second half. Marcus Carter (15 points), Kapri Doucet (14 points) and Brent Spencer (12 points) led the way offensive for Bruton (13-4 Bay Rivers), who remained tied with Lafayette for second place in the Bay Rivers District with one game left. Royce Bowden scored 16 points and Daniel Fisher added 11 to lead Poquoson (6-12 Bay Rivers), who knocked down 12 three pointers.

Grafton 79  Jamestown 57

The Clippers (18-3, 16-1 Bay Rivers), who clinched the Bay Rivers title on Wednesday, got great balance in handling Jamestown Friday night. Elijah Moore scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Blake Ream and Joey Miller each finished with 14, Kevin Barnes added 13 and Jesse Santiago chipped in with 10 as Grafton rolled to a 48-26 lead at halftime.

Williamsburg Christian Academy 73  Isle of White Academy 28

The Eagles built a 39-9 lead at the half and cruised behind Deron Powers’ 24 points. Jake Duncan also scored 18 as WCA improved to a Metro Conference-best 12-1 (19-5 overall).

Walsingham Academy 86  Banner Christian 55

Brandon LaRose (21 points) led Walsingham, now 19-3 (5-0 in the TCIS), as they outscored Banner Christian 48-30 in the second half. Mitch Owens (14 points) Dylan Cheely (13 points) Corey Brown (10 points) joined LaRose in double figures.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Williamsburg Christian Academy 65  Isle of White 31

Keyana Brown led the way for WCA with 17 points and Libby Timmer netted 13 as the Eagles stayed unbeaten in Metro Conference. They have a non-conference showdown with defending state-champion St. Annes-Belfield, the number six ranked team in  the VISAA Division I poll.

Norfolk Collegiate 58  Hampton Roads Academy 33

The lady Navigators (6-12,3-3 TCIS) fell at home despite a 20-rebound, nine-point effort by Brianne Spence and 14 points from leading scorer Braysia Hicks.
