WCA boys, girls roll past Alliance Christian, Walsingham boys suffer first conference loss at Cape Henry, and a big night of Bay Rivers girls’ hoops. GIRLS BASKETBALL Grafton 42 Jamestown 33 The Clippers overcame a dreadful offensive first-half to beat Jamestown and keep pace with Tabb atop the Bay Rivers District standings. FULL STORY Lafayette 50 York 34 Everyone got in on the action as 10 different players scored for the Rams (7-11 Bay Rivers) although none reached double figures. Alexis Jones led the way with nine, Krista Ferrell scored seven, and Libby Bland, Indyah Brown and Deborah Allison each chipped in with six. Jennifer Pandolf led York (1-16 Bay Rivers) with eight points. Tabb 41 Warhill 31 Bay Rivers Player of the Year candidate Emily Piazza led Tabb (18-3, 14-2 Bay Rivers) with 11 points while holding Warhill’s leading scorer Alexis Petrin (13ppg) to just three as the Tigers notched a big victory on the road. The win keeps Tabb tied with Grafton (14-2 Bay Rivers) for first place in the BRD with one game left on Thursday. Tabb has another tough road test at third-place Smithfield (12-5 Bay Rivers) while Grafton takes on York (1-17). Bruton 38 Poquoson 37 Amber Warner (20 points) sank two free throws in the closing seconds for Bruton (10-10, 10-7 Bay Rivers), who outscored the Islanders (8-9 Bay Rivers) 14-4 in the final period for their third-straight win. With the victory, the Panthers jumped ahead of Jamestown (10-7 Bay Rivers) for sole possession of fourth place in the district standings after sweeping the Eagles 2-0 during the regular season. Williamsburg Christian Academy 71 Alliance Christian 19 None of the Eagles’ starters played a minute as WCA (22-4, 13-0 Metro Conference) rolled to its eighth-straight victory and 13th straight in conference play. Stephanie Seaman and Ashley Cunningham led the way with 17 points apiece, Tiara Strong netted 13 and Lynn Dunn added 10 to lead WCA.
BOYS BASKETBALL Cape Henry Collegiate 72 Walsingham Academy 66 Aayron Hutton (21 points) and James Paige (16 points) led the host Dolphins in double figures as Cape Henry (5-1 TCIS) handed Walsingham (18-4, 5-1 TCIS) its first Tidewater Conference loss of the season. Brandon Rose (17 points), Corey Brown (16 points) and Mitch Owens (12 points) led the way for the Trojans, who dropped into a tie for first in the TCIS. Williamsburg Christian Academy 79 Alliance Christian 53 Jake Duncan went off for a game-high 30 points and Deron Powers finished with 18 points and dished out seven assists as WCA improved to a Metro Conference best 13-1 (21-5 overall). Mark Seaman added nine points and Joe Treacy and Brian Williams each finished with six.
