The Score: BRD Girls Basketball Tourney Quarterfinal Results, Semifinal Pairings

thescore

No surprises as Grafton, Tabb, Smithfield and Bruton all advance past Day 1 of the Bay Rivers District girls’ basketball tournament. Plus a look at Wednesday's semifinal round.

#1 Grafton 52   #8 Lafayette 38

Sophomore guard Emily Beyer scored a season-high 14 points and Olivia Wilson finished with 11 as the top-seeded Clippers rolled past Lafayette. The Rams were led by Indyah Brown’s 12 points.

#2 Tabb 52  #7 Warhill 42

The Tigers returned to form after a dreadful end to the regular season to beat visiting Warhill, and will now look for some revenge over Smithfield – who denied the Tigers a share of the district title by defeating them 41-28 last Thursday – in the semifinals on Wednesday.  Point guard Emily Piazza led the way with 16 points and Miranda Macfarlane scored 12 for Tabb. Alexis Petrin (17 points) and Melanie Heath (14 points) led the way in double figures for the Lions, who needed a win for a chance of advancing to next week’s Region I tournament.

#3 Smithfield 55  #6 Poquoson 43

Tiffany Lennon (15 points) Jackie Jordan (15 points) and Lauren Jones (10 points) led Smithfield’s balanced attack as they outlasted Poquoson, led by Liz Kincaid (13 points) and Sydney Turner (11 points), at home.  The Packers have quietly won five straight – and 10 of their last 11 – heading into Wednesday’s semifinal at Tabb.

#4 Bruton 39  #5 Jamestown 31

Behind Amber Warner’s 15 points, the Panthers outscored visiting Jamestown 26-14 in the second half for the come-from-behind victory on their home floor. FULL STORY
